Villa are reportedly unwilling to meet his €20m release clause and are hoping to negotiate with Celta Vigo to sign the 25-year-old right-back for a lower fee.

However, Celta Vigo will only let Mingueza leave if one of the clubs pays his €20m release clause, as they will also have to pay 50 per cent to his former club Barcelona. So, it is up to the Villans to decide whether to move on or stop there.

It remains to be see whether Aston Villa make their move for Mingueza – if so, it would be a massive blow for Celta.
